Take responsibility
High school sports is a great thing for young athletes. It gives a child tools to guide them through life, if the coach or coaches are responsible and understand there roles. The sad thing is a significant amount of coaches could care less about the athlete, they are there to stroke there ego, looking for some kind of authority that they can own, because they do not have it at home and they never really had it when they were growing up. What this does for an aspiring athlete is cheat them out of learning the true value of team work, responsibility for each other as a team, leadership, and possibly a true chance of making something out of themselves by getting a scholarship through there athletics and scholastic efforts. Lets take Football for instance, it is one of the greatest tools to use to teach young men the values of life. Discipline, respect, hard work and integrity. Yet Coaches go through the motions and loose respect from there athletes, the athletes feel the coach does not care then he looses interest in the team and himself, with an attitude of "no hope". Here is the repercussions of this greedy measure. when a person gets discourage they will turn to anything else that will make them feel important. That's why we have so many kids turning to Gangs because they make them feel apart of something, good or bad it does not matter. "they belong" So High school coaches KNOW what you HAVE to do, If you coach a team and you do not have respect from the athletes, then that's your cue to step down. There is a protocol to being a coach, and your not first. THE KIDS ARE!!!!!! You step on that gridiron with that protocol in your system, you will see a huge difference and you will be more successful. And yes it is your responsibility to help that kid get to the next level if they have earned it. So get it done!!! No excuses!!!
